Pitches
We created two pitches for games that used sensors to encourage movement and potentially rehabilitation usage while being projected onto a site in Columbus. The Secret Spies pitch (above) is the one we decided to move forward with.
Flowchart
The first step for the game was creating a flowchart that outlined the initial elements of our game in an organized and easy to read fashion. We used this to begin creating our game design document.
Prototyping
We started with the basics of our mechanics, technology, narrative, and aesthetics, using those to build out our smaller details such as audio visual feedback, cutscenes, etc. We continuously edited our game design document throughout the duration of the project, making sure that every detail was refined and cohesive with the others.
We used our game design document to create our first paper prototype, which showed off our game in an early stage.
Feedback we received on the first paper prototype allowed us to adapt our game design document and better plan our second paper prototype. This allowed us to further explain our mechanics, using a more finished game design document as a guide. We incorporated an idea for our initial cutscene that will give players some context to the narrative and flow into the game. We also decided to add descriptions as a way of explaining when and how lives are lost.
Rules
Lastly, we created our final rule book using our game design document and second paper prototype as a guide. It outlines everything players would need to know to successfully play our game in a clear and concise manner.
